Located in the central of Ninh Binh Province, Hoa Lu is one of district founded in 1977. This was the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries. Located in half mountain half plain area, far from Hanoi about 90km to the South, Hoa Lu has many picturesque limestone mountain with a lot of place must to see.

Today, Hoa Lu is one of most famous destination for tourists. Hoa Lu District (formerly Yen Khanh District) is covered by Gia Vien District at the North, by Yen Mo District at the South, Nho Quan District at the West and Tam Diep City, and by Nam Dinh Province at the East. This terrain has an area of 139, 7 km². Situated between at Ninh Binh City and Tam Diep City, thus, Hoa Lu District has many advantages about transport aspect. It can be said that Hoa Lu, now, is the most developed district in Ninh Binh. And thank nature to give many of colorful landscape with a cultural and spirituality values, Hoa Lu today has a huge tourism potential.

Hoa Lu is famous for some popular sites as following. 

Let’s beginning with Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, a national relics related to the three dynasties in feudal history of Vietnam ( Dinh , Le and Ly dynasties at the 10th and 11th centuries). This area consists of defense earthen walls, palaces, temples and shrines which make magnificent fairy scenery.Firstly, it mentioned to Dinh Temple and Le Temple. Coming here, visitor have a chance to see temple built in honor of the emperors Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh, their sons and Queen Duong Van Nga. Every year, on the 10th-13th of March of lunar calendar in Truong Yen commune, the local people here organize the festival to honor two kings of Dinh and Le dynasty.
Over more than 1000 year, but these temples are well preserved. Besides, Hoa Lu is also known by some old beautiful pagoda as Kim Ngan Pagoda, Nhat Tru Pagoda, Dau Long Pagoda… By the historical value and different architecture, this location attracts many tourist take incense offering and visiting every year.  In addition, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital is famous by number of wall, palace, shrines…

Today, mentioned to Hoa Lu, tourist think immediately about Bai Dinh Pagoda because it has become a popular site for Buddhist pilgrimages from across Vietnam. This is a largest pagoda in the South East Asia with a number of huge Buddha statues, largest bronze Buddha where is received a lot of visitor each year, especially in the first new year. Many records are set here such as the bronze bell of 36 tons, the statue of Buddha of 100 tons….

One more beautiful feature in HoaLu is Trang An Ecotourism Complex which is approved as a Special National Site of Vietnam by the Prime Minister. It is considered as a “Ha Long on land” of our country. According to statistics, Trang An has a diversity in flora and fauna systems, among them 10 species are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam. Furthermore, the natural limestone system aged 32 million years to 6.000 years will bring to Trang a great scenery. Many spectacular cave are here as Ba Giot, Seo, Dia Linh, Nau Ruou, etc.  This is the ideal destination for who loves nature and wants to discover it.

Now, Ninh Binh has developed an application site of Trang An for recognition by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage. Belong Trang An complex, Tam Coc – Bich Dong is considered focused location for tourist. Being a poetic and inspiration natural scenery, Tam Coc – Bich Dong is considered as a “A terrestrial Halong bay or “second nicest grotto of Vietnam”.This complex is covered in an area of 350.3 hectares, far from Ninh Binh city about 7km in which Tam Coc means threes grotto, including of Hang Ca, Hang Hai and Hang Bac caves. Meanwhile, Bich Dong is the name of a beautiful pagoda, comprising three structures: Ha, Trung, and Thuong Pagodas. During the journey to visit Tam Coc – Bich Dong, visitor has an opportunity to see some others attractive ecological tourism as Thung Nang (Sun Valley), Thung Nham, Co Vien Lau Ancient houses…Those are marvelous landscape from nature for Hoa Lu. After all, with a huge potential tourism as above, today Hoa Lu is one of highlight of Ninh Binh in particular and of Vietnam in general.
